Make your weekends memorable and rejuvenate your mind and body! Here are 12 fun things to do this weekend to recharge for the new week!

I know, playing video games, watching movies on TV or videos on the phone and getting drunk with friends seem like very reasonable weekend activities that can take your mind off work. I’ve been there. But do these really recharge you? Do they really energize you and clear your mind to help you start the next week feeling fresh and brand new?

I don’t think so. Might just be me, but I know that spending time outdoors in the fresh air and enjoying a hobby on my own or with loved ones is a much better alternative.

Here are some simple things you can do to recharge over the weekend. These weekend habits can actually rejuvenate your mind and body and make you feel amazing! These are especially important when you’re going through busy and stressful weeks.

1. Go Swimming

Swimming is a wonderful activity and if there’s a swimming pool nearby, then make sure you take advantage of its numerous mental and physical health benefits. Not only is it a good workout that develops your muscles, but it improves your cardiovascular system, heart, and lungs, too.

Similar to other forms of physical exercise, swimming releases endorphins. That is to say that even a short swim will make you feel positive and happy while lowering the risk of depression and burnout.

2. Have A Walk In The Park

If there is a park near the place you live, then having a long and relaxing walk is one of the best things to do during the weekend. The fresh air and greenery are the perfect stress reliever while the moderate physical activity is a great way to keep fit. Walking also releases endorphins that will reduce pain, boost your mood and make you happy. Moreover, this can be the perfect time to reflect, make plans or even catch up with friends!

3. Travel

“Travelling broadens the mind”, they say. Choose an interesting destination, pack your suitcases, and hit the road. You can visit a lake, a castle, a historical site, or just the nearby area. Take your time and explore the surroundings, meet new people, and try new experiences. One thing is sure, at the end of your trip you will be fully recharged and ready to start the new week afresh with plans for your next journey.

4. Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to spend the weekend while helping the local community. You can support charities, animal shelters as well as people living near you. Volunteering will certainly bring purpose and meaning to your life.

Moreover, it has been proved that it relieves stress and helps cope with depression. So, next time you are wondering what to do this coming weekend volunteer and make a positive impact on your community.

5. Have a Picnic

One of the easiest fun things to do during the weekend is having a picnic with a friend or family. If the weather allows it, don’t overthink it! Grab some bread, cheese and vegetables, your picnic basket and get out! You can do this in the countryside, in the park, or even in your garden.  Fill in the picnic basket with your favorite food and drinks you are sure to have an unforgettable experience.

6. Have a Spa Day

If you are not in the mood for sports and want just to unwind and recharge, then book a day at a spa center. You can choose from a great number of spa rituals for a real wellness retreat. A full body massage will improve your blood circulation while reducing tension and stress hormones. Go to a sauna or relax in a hot tub, then treat yourself to a spa facial or aromatherapy. You will certainly be a whole new person at the end of the day.

7. Visit a Local Farm

If you are in the mood for something more practical, then visit the nearest local farm in your area. This can be one of the most exciting weekend activities for both kids and grown-ups.

You will be able to see different kinds of crops and animals. You will learn how they are grown and raised as well as how to use farm machinery and equipment.

And last but not least, buy some locally grown food from the farm to support the local business.

8. Play Ball or Board Games

Playing games is one of the most popular weekend activities both for kids and adults alike. Basketball, volleyball, tennis, or soccer are excellent forms of exercise that will get the adrenaline pumping.

If you are not the sporty type of person, then board games may be what you are looking for no matter whether you want to play alone or with your family.

9. Plant A Garden

Planting a garden may turn into one of your favorite fun things to do during the weekend. Even if you don’t have a garden, you can grow your own plants in pots or containers. No matter what time of the year it is, there’s some kind of a veggie that can be planted and will grow well. So, head to the gardening center to buy some seeds and start your garden today.

10. Enjoy a Long Bike Ride

Riding a bike is one of the best weekend activities for people who prefer active physical exercise. It has been proved that cycling improves strength, balance as well as coordination. And this applies not only to the body but to the mind, too. So, grab your bike and head for the park or the countryside. If you love extremes, then mountain biking may be ideal for you.

11. Take Photos

Photography as a hobby can be an amazing activity that will help you forget about duties at work. The good thing is that you don’t need any special equipment because you can use your phone. Moreover, you can photograph basically anything and anywhere. So, if you don’t feel like going to the mountains or the park, you can just take pictures of plants and buildings in your yard or neighborhood. And last, but not least, it is absolutely free.

12. Go Camping

If you are more of an adventurous type, then going camping may be one of your preferred weekend activities, especially with family and friends. You’ll get the chance to spend lots of time outdoors, try your hand at cooking on an open fire and sleeping under the stars.

I don’t know if it’s that romantic once the mosquitos enter the scene, but camping will bring you back to the present and help you forget all your weekly troubles and cares. Plus it is definitely a memorable experience that will take your mind off work and duties!
